About the Film
Set on May 4, 1970, during the escalating Vietnam War, 'Freedom Deal' follows a Cambodian youth named Samnang ('Lucky') and an ornery but likable wedding musician named Nuon as they make their way through the conflict along the Cambodia border, encountering landmines, marauding helicopters, and traditional Cambodian ghosts known as 'Arbs'. Told from a rarely seen Cambodian perspective, the film blends war drama, supernatural horror, and coming of age story into a single 25 minute episode adapted from a larger completed feature screenplay.
